Housed within Taunton Castle, the Museum of Somerset has recently seen a huge redevelopment, and as the reviews on TripAdvisor will vouch this remains one of Taunton’s most impressive family attractions.
The museum now uses engaging and interactive displays to tell the tale of Somerset from prehistoric times right up to today, and it uses genuine artefacts along with audio displays and images to bring the stories to life. The artefacts on display include a shrunken head, the second largest collection of Roman coins and the Tree of Somerset.
This is a museum that has been designed with families in mind, so a visit is an informative for children as it is for mums and dads, in fact, thanks to the friendly staff and onsite cafe it’s a great day out. Entry to the museum is free and there’s a gift shop for those who want to pick up a unique gift or souvenir.
The exhibitions are updated regularly, so even if you’ve visited before there’ll be something new to catch your eye. The museum is easy to reach as it’s right in the heart of the town, and if you get a wet day during your stay it’s just the place to amuse the kids.
