The East Somerset Railway is one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy Somerset’s unspoilt countryside, and this attraction has been running steam trains for more than forty years. Trains run between Cranmore and Mendip Vale so they’re a nice way to explore another part of the county during a Somerset holiday, or many just choose to hop aboard for the experience and to enjoy the views.
The thought of plundering through the landscape in traditional style may sound pretty peaceful but there’s always something going on at East Somerset Railway - so you can enjoy something unique during your visit if you check in advance to see what’s happening. There are regular events for all ages such as steam galas, spooky specials at Halloween and Santa Specials throughout the Christmas period, and the regular dining trains are perfect ways to enjoy a Sunday roast or a cream tea with a difference.
The Mendip Belle dining trains are always a favourite with new passengers and they include a two hour journey by steam train and Sunday lunch. Tickets must be booked in advance and trains depart on certain Sundays at 12.30pm. Dogs are welcome on all trains except for the dining trains and the themed events trains such as Santa Specials.
