The East and West Mendip WayThis walk in Somerset runs from the coastal town of Weston-super-Mare to Frome (pronounced froom!), and stretches for fifty scenic miles right across the Mendip Hills. Split into two sections, The West Mendip Way and the East Mendip Way, the footpath was created in 1979. The Mendip Way passes some fantastic vantage points, especially for views of the Somerset Levels and some of the natural attractions of Somerset. Most sections of the route make for a moderate walk, as they tend to include steep climbs. |
Monarch's WayThe Monarch’s Way is a long distance footpath perfect for those after a bracing walk in Somerset. If you’re wondering where it got its name, it was the escape route taken by Charles II after being beaten at the famous Battle of Worcester in the year 1651. The event helped shaped the country’s history, and the route isn’t only fascinating for its part in it – but also for the beautiful scenery it follows. Charles spent six weeks weaving his way through this area whilst on the run, and many of the places which offered him shelter can still be seen. He eventually escaped to France from Shoreham. |
Taunton Space WalkNow for a Somerset walk with a difference, the Taunton Space Walk! Officially named the Somerset Space Walk, this trail is a great way to explore the historic town of Taunton during a family holiday in the region. This walk follows the Taunton to Bridgwater Canal, but few expect the models of the solar system that are found along the way. This walk is a rare chance to wander or cycle through a true-scale model of our solar system. The walk is completely free, and can be completed in sections if 22km is a little challenging.

The Coleridge WayBridgwater was home to one of our greatest Romantic poets, and since the dramatic scenery of the county inspired some of his best-loved poetry, fans can follow his footsteps with Somerset walk, The Coleridge Way. Stretching for 36 miles, this trail passes the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park. The unspoilt countryside is some of the county’s most unspoilt landscape, and if tackled over several days is the perfect way to get to know the area. This Somerset walk also links to the South West Coast Path, so walkers can always pick a section of this national trail too.
