Beach Holidays in SomersetSomerset holiday cottages are close to some beautiful beaches, and as the county’s within an easier distance for a short break than some of the more famous beach resorts, it’s well worth cutting out the travel and sneaking to these gorgeous sands. The beaches in Somerset aren’t only ideal for all you sun worshippers, they also make great spots for fishing, walking and swimming. |

Weston-Super-Mare BeachWe’ll start with the jewel in the Somerset beach scene’s crown...Weston-super-Mare beach! As one of the UK’s lengthiest natural beaches, Weston-super-Mare would be a winner with those on Somerset beach holidays even without the added attractions. Visitors not only get a seemingly endless carpet of sand, there’s also the Grand Pier – which is crammed full of indoor attractions for the whole family. With all the charm of a traditional British seaside town, Weston-super-Mare is great fun no matter what the weather. Children can hop onto a donkey for a ride along the sand and the tide goes out as far as the eye can see leaving plenty of space to play.

Minehead BeachAnother of the most popular beaches in Somerset, Minehead Beach is found on the edge of Exmoor National Park and is a rare example of countryside framing the sea. If you’re looking for a quiet Somerset beach holiday you’ll find plenty to enjoy at Minehead Beach. The long, main beach is sandy and there is a pebbly beach close to the harbour. The main beach also has a traditional promenade that’s just the right length for a stroll and a chat! The views from this beach are one of its biggest charms, as you can see right across the Bristol Channel and over to Wales.

Burnham-on-SeaJust a thirty minute drive west of Glastonbury, Burnham-on-Sea boasts an award-winning Somerset beach. The main Burnham beach is sandy and makes a great choice for families. The sands are watched by lifeguards between May and September, and with a dog ban throughout the whole year Burnham Beach is handy for parents on Somerset beach holidays. There are also donkey rides and entertainment for the children, and as the waters are safe for swimming and paddling it’s just the spot for the little one’s first dip! This beach is also close to facilities.

Porlock BeachPorlock Beach is another gem for those planning beach holidays in Somerset. This Minehead beach is pebbly, but at four miles long it makes for the perfect spot if you’re a walker, fisherman or swimmer! There are facilities at the beach, including toilets and a delicious cafe, so although this isn’t a very central one it’s well-served. Porlock is a village found 5 miles to the west of Minehead, and the South West Coast Path passes the area too – so why not pick this section to tackle? Look out for the submerged forest visible when the tide goes out.
