Dog Friendly Somerset WalksAs our walking Somerset page shows, there’s no shortage of trails and pathways in and around Somerset, so it’s really just a case of choosing the dog friendly Somerset walk for you. The Coleridge Way, Monarch’s Way and South West Coast Path can all be picked up in the county, and each has its own special story. The Coleridge Way is by far the shortest at 36 miles, and it enables visitors to tread the footsteps of the great Romantic poet, who once lived in Bridgwater. The Somerset Levels and Mendip Hills are every dog’s dream, with their open landscape and diverse terrain.

Dog Friendly Somerset AttractionsOk, so the more formal attractions of Somerset such as Wells Cathedral are pretty unsuitable for dogs, but there are plenty of dog-friendly Somerset attractions to be enjoyed if you know where to go. Glastonbury Abbey welcomes dogs on leads, and this spiritual site is a fascinating place to explore. This romantic ruin sits within 36 acres of tranquil parkland, and it’s a lovely place to explore with your pet in tow. The West Somerset Railway is the UK’s longest heritage railway, and as luck would have it dogs are welcome aboard for a fare of just £2.00. |
Dog Friendly Pubs in SomersetThe King William Inn in Glastonbury welcomes dogs along, and since Glastonbury Abbey is dog friendly too this is probably a good one to bear in mind whilst you’re there. The Cottage Inn in Bridgwater also welcomes pets, so if you pass it on The Colerdige Way this choice is a good one for you and your pet. The Home Cook Cafe in Porlock welcomes dogs inside, so if you’re stuck for a snack during a day on the beach it’s worth remembering. The Ship Inn at Uphill is also dog friendly, and it can often seem that there are more pets than owners enjoying this Weston-super-Mare inn! |

Dog Friendly Somerset BeachesAll dogs love a run around on the beach, so we’ve found the best dog-friendly Somerset beaches the area has to offer. Just be sure to check for any bans before setting off. Sand Bay, Porlock, Berrow and Brean beaches welcome dogs thoughout the year, so if in doubt check out any of these. The impressive Weston-super-Mare beach operates a dog ban between Royal Sands and the Grand Pier between 1 May and 30 September. However, dogs are allowed between the Grand Pier and Knightstone Island and from Royal Sands to Uphill all year, so ask where these areas are if you’re not sure.
