The Sid Valley

For a one way Sidmouth walk along the beautiful Sid Valley, get a bus to Sidbury and walk the 4 miles back. This is an easy walk, with only one climb as you leave Sidbury, but there are no obstacles such as stiles to contend with.

Sidbury is a pretty village in the heart of the Sid Valley, so this walk will give you a great view of the valley as you make you way back to Sidmouth.

Look out for an original packhorse footbridge that you’ll need to cross along the way, as this dates back to the year 1100!

The South West Coast Path

When it comes to walks in Sidmouth visitors really are spoilt, as The South West Coast Path passes through too! With some of the country’s most fascinating coastline in the area, choosing a walk along this route is a great way to explore it.

Whether you choose to try the 13 miles to Exmouth, of perhaps just go halfway and return by bus, the beauty of the Coast Path is that you can plan your day’s walking to suit your ability. If you take your dog with you on your Sidmouth walk, check the restrictions on any beaches your walk may pass.

The Jurassic Coast

With The Jurassic Coast on the doorstep of Sidmouth holiday cottages, this hast got to top any list of Sidmouth walks! The East Devon coastline became the first World Heritage Site in England and it holds the key to 185 million years of our planet’s history.

Known as a ‘walk through time’, the Jurassic Coast has offered the world of scientific research a huge insight into Earth’s history, you may even find a piece yourself as the area is strewn with beautiful fossils! Whichever section of this dazzling coastline you choose to walk, you’ll be treading history.

Budleigh Salterton to Sidmouth

If Exmouth seems a little far, the 6 mile walk from Budleigh Salterton to Sidmouth may be the section of the South West Coast Path for you. This Sidmouth walk has an easy start, following the beach at Budleigh Salterton along the flat path behind.

Cut through a nature reserve and cross the River Otter, before heading back to the coast. You’ll soon reach Ladram Bay, from where there is a more strenuous section as you climb a steep hill. From here, you soon descend towards Sidmouth and can reach the town using Jacob’s Ladder.

Sidmouth to Beer

If you feel adventurous, the walk between Sidmouth and Beer along the South West Coast Path is 9 miles – a more energetic Sidmouth walk. This walk includes some steep climbs as you leave the town of Sidmouth, but as you reach the top of the surrounding cliffs you’ll find the breathtaking views well worth the energy!

A regular bus service runs from Beer to Sidmouth, so you’ll be able to relax and admire the scenery while you rest your feet on the return journey. Beer is a beautiful fishing village, so you’ll be sure to find a lovely spot for some lunch.
