Shanklin’s a relaxed corner of the Isle of Wight, and The Steamer Inn combines a gorgeous sea view from its terraces with a quirky atmosphere and decor. Steamers would have docked at the pier opposite the pub in days gone by, and it’s fittingly decorated with all kinds of steamer-themed relics in a nod to the area’s past. These days the pier is long gone, but you can enjoy great views of Sandown Pier nearby and this is a nostalgic pub with a friendly atmosphere.
The pub has a sheltered patio and a sun deck to choose from, and the view from the pub’s outside areas makes it easy to picture how Shanklin would have looked in its Victorian heyday. Pick a seafood dish from the pub’s specials board and enjoy a taste of the island while you enjoy the panoramic coastal views.
The pub welcomes families, and as it’s just a short walk from a long sandy stretch of beach it’s a popular place to enjoy something to eat before or after making the most of a sunny day by the sea. Look out for the huge propeller that’s mounted to one of the outside walls – you can’t miss it!
