Sandown Pier has been welcoming families since 1879, and it’s every bit as charming as visitors found it way back when. This is what seaside breaks with the kids are all about – rides on the helter skelter, an indoor amusements arcade and traditional seaside cafes. The pier is home to all kinds of fairground rides to entertain children (and grown ups come to think of it), as well as a crazy golf course and the enormous Magical Island play area.
Bear the pier in mind if you get a shower during your stay in Sandown, as much of it’s indoors so you’ll be able to keep the children entertained and dry at the same time. Try your hand at ten-pin bowling or succumb to nostalgia and try your luck on one of the penny slot machines…you name it, Sandown Pier probably has it. If your children prefer showing off their skills on video games they’ll be in their element when they discover the video game machines, and the pier’s home to all the sweet treats that taste just like the seaside.
The pier’s the perfect place for a slow walk high above the sea too, and you’ll enjoy some of the finest views on the island from the end of it. Entrance to the pier is free of charge.
