Saunton Sands is an extremely popular sandy beach which stretches for three miles and backs onto one of the UK’s largest dune systems, Braunton Burrows. This west-facing beach is excellent for surfing and water sports, and hoards of visitors opt for Saunton Sands holidays year in and year out. Saunton Sands beach is lifeguarded during peak season, and has toilet and cafe facilities, a car park and a shop. Surfboards are available for hire for those who fancy giving it a go. Dogs are allowed on the beach between October and March, although access for them is restricted during summer. In 1990, the South West’s hottest ever temperature was recorded at Saunton Sands.
