The trendy resort of Rock lies directly opposite Padstow, and the two are connected by a ferry – so those enjoying Rock holidays can easily hop across the estuary for a different view. A late water taxi also operates between the villages for those enjoying the nightlife too much to catch the last ferry.
The village of Polzeath was close to the heart of Sir John Betjeman, the former Port Laureate, and was recognised in some of his work. It’s easy to understand why the area inspired him, with its unspoilt beauty and rocky coastline. Rock is a popular sailing resort, and its sheltered beach and cove are often lined with yachts – making a stunning sight. St Enodoc Church in nearby Trebetherick crouches amidst the sand dunes of the Camel Estuary. This tranquil church was a favourite with Sir John Betjeman and his grave can be found in the church yard. The St Enodoc Golf Course is one of the South West’s best, with a challenging layout in dramatic surroundings that will exhilarate even the most experienced golfer. Holidays in Polzeath holiday cottages are also a great opportunity to explore the Camel Trail. The trail weaves its way through North Cornwall along disused railway tracks, so most of it is flat and easy to cycle or walk.
