Dog Friendly Plymouth Walks

One of the most dog friendly walks in Plymouth is Mt Batten to Hooe Lake, via Bovisand and Down Thomas. The walk is a four-mile circular walk which follows the South West Coast Path, crosses fields and includes woodland – a perfect trip out for any pet!

The walk starts at Mt Batten car park, close to Plymouth and continues to Bovisand with beautiful coastal views.

The walk then heads inland to Down Thomas and passes through countryside to Radford Lake vefore heading back to Mt Batten via Hooe. Sections of this spectacular route offer breathtaking views across Plymouth and to Dartmoor.

Dog Friendly Beaches in Plymouth

Mothecombe Beach is privately owned, and is one of the most popular dog friendly Plymouth beaches. Although dogs are restricted to particular areas of the sandy beach, its beauty and peaceful atmosphere make it an idyllic spot for a walk or day out with your pet.

The surrounding tree-covered cliffs make a picturesque view in every direction, and the welcoming waters are safe for a swim, water sports or paddling.

The beach has its own parking (at a cost of £2 per day) and toilet facilities. Mothecombe Beach also has a Marine Conservation Society Award to its name.

Formerly a landscaped garden dating back to the 18 century, Saltram house and garden permits dogs on leads, although they must stick to designated paths. Saltram makes for a stunning dog friendly Plymouth attraction, and is one of Plymouth’s hidden gems!

Saltram was the home of the Parker family for three centuries, and the spectacular gardens and original interiors offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. Saltram is open throughout the year, and hosts many events too – including costume evenings, open theatre and even a wizard school.
