Praa SandsPraa Sands is one of the most beautiful Penzance beaches, in fact it’s one of the best in the country! The beach is found between Helston and Penzance, and this sandy beach is a favourite spot with surfers as well as families and bathers. There is a seasonal dog ban enforced between Easter and October, and a car park beside the beach – so it’s a convenient one to visit if you have small children. The beach is a mile long, and lifeguards man it throughout the year. The closest town to the beach is Helston, which is fairly quiet but has an interesting museum.

LongrockThis is probably the easiest of the beaches in Penzance to access as it’s close to the town centre, and it’s popular with residents and visitors of the town. Longrock is a safe beach, as you need to walk quite far out to sea before it even reaches waist height, so it’s ideal if you have children who like to paddle and enjoy the water. There is parking available at Longrock, but you’ll need to arrive early to get a space during the summer as it becomes full quickly. There is a seasonal dog ban and lifeguards at the busier, eastern end of the beach during high season.

Marazion BeachMarazion is a hidden gem of a beach in Penzance, as in spite of its large expanse of sand and great facilities it rarely draws large crowds. Just 3 miles from Penzance, the beach is in the village of Marazion and is mainly sandy with some pebbles. Its advantages include clean waters, lifeguards and a large car park right beside it. Since the beach is right opposite Marazion village, you’ll find amenities nearby, and a children’s play park just across the road. Also, the beach is connected to St Michael’s Mount, a historic island via a cobbled causeway.

Praa SandsIf you don’t mind a pebbly beach, Wherrytown Beach is well worth a try during a Penzance beach holiday. The beach runs between Penzance and Newlyn and offers great views over to St Michael’s Mount. There aren’t many facilities here, but on the plus side there’s a green and play area nearby, so if you’re entertaining children for a day you can pop over if they have enough fun by the sea. There’s no lifeguard service at this beach, but dog owners should note that it is one of a few beaches in the area that welcomes dogs on all year round.

Kynance CoveKynance Cove is not quite a Penzance beach, but it’s a beautiful little cove that’s worth visiting if you head towards the lizard during your Penzance beach holiday. Owned by the National Trust, Kynance Cove was once described by the BBC as ‘one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the South West’ and the little cafe which serves it dates back to 1929.The combination of glistening turquoise waters and white sand make the cove a beautiful sight, and its nearby caves and islands on the horizon give this cove the feeling of belonging to a far away land.
