Dog Friendly Holidays in Paignton
There are few places quite as suited to holidays with your dog as Paignton…from its sandy coves to its “here’s a drink and here’s one for your dog” kind of pubs it ticks all the boxes for owners and pets.
Let’s start with the beach side of things. We know that - two legs or four - that moment when we really know we’ve arrived on holiday is the one where we step foot on the sand and smell the sea on the breeze, and there’s a beautiful section of sand set aside for dogs to enjoy themselves. The North Beach at Goodrington Sands is dog friendly all year round, and it’s sandy, scenic and spacious.
There’s a family-friendly pub called the Inn on the Quay just behind the beach, so when your dog’s finished savouring Paignton’s sandy delights he’ll be welcome to bask in the beachside garden while you tuck into something hearty outside. If you wander along to Goodrington Boating Lakes you’ll find a grassy park that welcomes dogs too, and it’s so close to the sea that you can almost hear the waves rolling in.
Dogs are welcome aboard the Dartmouth Steam Railway which runs from Paignton to Kingswear so you’ll be free to experience the golden age of steam with your dog in tow and explore a little further afield. Speaking of exploring, some of the most beautiful sections of the South West Coast Path run past Paignton, and it makes the perfect opportunity to take in the scenery while your dog enjoys a walk somewhere new.
If you love to unwind with a ball game your dog can get involved in, you’ll find Paignton Green behind the main promenade. There’s a special dogs exercise area that welcomes them all year round, and just across the road you’ll find dog friendly pubs complete with beer gardens where you’ll be free to sit back and catch the sun.
