Compton CastleEnveloped in the rolling South Devon countryside of Marldon, Compton Castle is a beautiful medieval fortress close to Paignton. Compton Castle was home to the Gilbert family for 600 years, including Sir Walter Raleigh’s half brother, Sir Humphrey Gilbert. The castle is open to the public between April and October, and visitors can enjoy a guided tour of the castle at 2pm daily. In addition to the dramatic castle itself, its gardens are equally breathtaking and include several peaceful trails. Also, the herb and rose gardens are not to be missed.

Overlooking Goodrington Sands, Devon’s leading water park is open between May and September, providing a fun day out for all ages. Dartmouth Steam RailwayOne of the most nostalgic family attractions in Paignton is the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company. Hop aboard the steam train for an exhilarating ride to Dartmouth, where you can board a foot ferry across the River Dart to explore the picturesque town.
