Obby Oss Day, PadstowThe first of May (Unless is falls on a Sunday) is a date close to any Padstow resident’s heart – it’s Obby Oss day! The original meaning behind this North Cornwall event has long been lost, but it’s still celebrated with its original vigour. Residents of Padstow traditionally wear white clothing, and choose red or blue to add to it (depending on which of the two Oss their family follows). Whichever Oss they choose, the residents gather to perform a dance through the town, performed to a special Obby Oss song. Followers crowd through the streets after the dance and celebrate until the red and blue Oss’ are released, when they join the fun until 10pm.
