It’s a well-known fact that the happy old Isle of Wight hosts more festivals than any other resort in the whole of the UK and they don’t come much more popular than Bestival. With a reputation for the friendliest of festivals and being smaller than some of the big names on the mainland, Bestival is all about live music, fancy dress and enjoying the Great Outdoors on the Isle of Wight.
The festival has taken over Robin Hill Country Park once every year since 2004 and it continues to welcome the biggest names in music year after year. There’s a different theme to every festival so the fancy dress changes with each year (but pretty much anything goes) and 2010 saw 55,000 people set a brand new world record for the largest number of people in fancy dress at one event.
There’s a laidback atmosphere throughout Bestival and families are welcome (in fact under 12s go free). Here’s a tip that could prove priceless...there’s usually a designated campsite that’s a little quieter than the others, so if you’re thinking of taking the children you might want to opt for this one if you’re going to camp. Bestival has become one of the island’s most popular annual events, and if you fancy a festival with a feel-good attitude that isn’t as gigantic as major players like Glastonbury then it’s ideal.
