Mevagissey WalksThe pretty coves and cobbled streets of Mevagissey were once trodden by smugglers taking advantage of the quiet fishing town on the coast. Today, the winding alleys and pretty scenery remain and they’re just waiting to be discovered by guests of our Mevagissey holiday cottages...but look out for the odd tunnel as you walk! |

Mevagissey Coast PathThe coast path makes for a less strenuous walk in Mevagissey, and you still get to see some of its most beautiful landmarks. At just under 4 miles, this walk should take around 3 hours to complete, but take your time as the trail is steep in one or two places. The walk starts in Mevagissey, amidst the whitewashed fishing cottages and colourful sights around the harbour. You’ll need to follow the historic alleys between the fishing cottages to pick up the coast path, and you’ll soon find yourself gazing down on the village from the top of the nearby cliffs.

The Lost Gardens of HeliganThe Lost Gardens of Heligan lie just outside of Mevagissey, and a trip to these beautiful grounds makes a perfect Mevagissey walk. The walk to Heligan is just under 6 miles, so it’ll take a few hours but the climbs along the way are short and not too strenuous! If you’re imagination has been revived by the art galleries that line the streets of Mevagissey, this scenic walk to a once-lost garden will ignite it even further. This walk passes woodland areas, farmland and coastal paths...so there’s a different view at every turn!

Gorran HavenFor a slightly longer Mevagissey walk, try the 7 miles to Gorran Haven via Portmellon. You’ll return to Mevagissey along the coastal path and enjoy unforgettable panoramic views right across St Austell Bay. Enjoy the variation of the landscapes as you pass from an inland valley, to woodland and on to the spectacular coastal path...although this walk is fairly long you’ll never be short of a magnificent view. If you try the walk on a hot day, look out for Colona Beach found between Turbot Point and Chapel Point, as it’s a great spot for a quick dip!

Gorran Haven to Dodman PointThe tiny village of Gorran Haven lies just a few miles outside of Mevagissey, and it makes a great starting point for a 5 mile Mevagissey walk. The walk is circular, starting from the National Trust car park, and passes the beautiful secluded Vault Beach along the way. This section of coast path is wonderfully rugged, and the highlight is local landmark Dodman Point, with a cross-shaped day mark. You’ll walk a lengthy area of heathland from here before returning to the car park. Dodmon Point is a striking headland, once used as an Iron Age fort, and its large cross protects ships from the headland.
