Mevagissey AquariumMevagissey Aquarium is a quirky family attraction in Mevagissey, and it’s found in a former lifeboat station just off the quay. The aquarium strives to bridge the gap between the public and the fishing industry on which the town has largely relied, and its emphasis on sealife from the local waters is a great way of giving children an insight into the town’s connection with the waters. A donation is recommended from adults upon entry to the aquarium, and all profits from the aquarium go to maintenance of the harbour.

The Lost Gardens of HeliganIf you’re looking for a Mevagissey attraction a little further afield, The Lost Gardens of Heligan lie in nearby St Austell and are just waiting to be discovered. The Lost Gardens of Heligan cover a 200 acre estate, and they house some fascinating species of plant life. The gardens are not only beautiful but have a story to capture the imagination. The gardens surround the family seat of the Tremayne family, and lay dormant and forgotten for decades after the estate’s workers left for the Great War. However, the discovery of an inscription in 1990 led to a huge project to restore them, and they became a leading attraction too! |
The Mevagissey FerryThe Fowey to Mevagissey passenger ferry is a Mevagissey family attraction in its own right, and the service runs between May and October. The journey takes just over half an hour, and one of the highlights is a view of the Lost Gardens of Heligan from the water! Those who keep their eyes peeled may also catch sight of George the dolphin, basking sharks, gannets or even a warship! Fowey is one of the prettiest towns in Cornwall and has plenty to explore once you’re there.A beautiful sandy beach, lots of quaint shops and impressive eateries await you when you step off the ferry.
