Lynmouth BayFound in what the Victorians knew as ‘Little Switzerland’, Lynmouth Beach is a shingle and rock beach that has the scenery expected from a beach in the heart of Exmoor National Park! Those looking for Lynmouth and Lynton beach holidays will be happy with this pebbly and well-equipped beach, although it is more popular with those walking than with sun worshippers. Lynmouth is also great for surfing, and some days can be fantastic! Another of its advantages is that there are no restrictions on dogs, so you can wander the shore with your pet at any time of year. |
Tunnels BeachTunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe are an attraction as much as a North Devon beach! The beaches can only be reached via four tunnels carved into the cliffs of Ilfracombe, ensuring that there the shelteres beaches remain separate. If you’re wondering why this is the case, think back to the rigid Victorian views on dividing the sexes, and images of separate beaches and well-covered bathing suits! Although the beaches are no longer used for keeping the ladies and gents apart, they are still privately owned – so a small fee is charged to access them through the historic tunnels. |
Saunton SandsA little further along the coast in Saunton, Saunton Sands offers 3 miles of golden sands, lined by pretty sand dunes and another popular stretch of beach with those on family beach holidays and surfing breaks. Saunton Sands is well served with toilet facilities, a shop and a cafe bar. Dogs are welcome throughout the year but horses are not permitted on the sands. There is also lots of opportunity to hire water sports equipment, so if you fancy trying something new there’s no excuse not to go for it! |
