First thing’s first with this one – it’s set inside an historic former railway station. Beautifully converted, the restaurant is brand new and serves up breakfasts, lunches and dinners with French flair. Off the Rails may be fairly new on the Isle of Wight foodie scene, but it’s already got a loyal following and some glowing reviews on good old TripAdvisor.
The platform’s been transformed into a terrace area, so on sunny day diners can sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet in this unique location while they dine. Even the staff’s uniforms pay homage to the building’s days as a station, as the head waiter looks much like the kind of conductor passengers may have been greeted with when they arrived at the building in the good old days.
The menu leans towards modern, bistro-style meals with plenty of healthy options. There are gluten free dishes available, and there’s always something exciting to try on the Specials board. There’s a nice walk along the river from the main car park in the centre of Yarmouth, but if you take the car with you there are a few parking spaces outside.
