Description

Nestled amongst a sea of woodland countryside is The Hermitage; a beautiful, recently renovated country house with just over 11 acres of secluded mature grounds with attractive country and sea views.

They say that first impressions are the most important, and when you walk into the spacious entrance hall and see the grand staircase which welcomes you to come and see the rest of this spectacular house you won’t be disappointed. The Hermitage is awash with a modern style of class from the renovation and an old fashioned authenticity which you can only truly find in the original wooden floorboards and the open fireplaces of a country house.

To the left of the staircase you will find an elegant panelled room which has access to the terrace and garden by two sets of French doors and for the more competitive of you there is a games room next door. Here you will find a pool table and table tennis and for those of you who want to work out there is also a separate gym with a tread mill, exercise bike and weights with an en suite shower room.

Upstairs there is a choice of 10 bedrooms all with either en suite shower or bath or rear or garden views. To house the bookworms of the party there is a reading area on the landing with stunning views of the manicured front garden, a perfect little setting for some peace and quiet whilst will digging into a good book.

Why not refine your holiday further and hire a local caterer to provide a welcome meal on your arrival? You could enjoy some real pampering with a mobile beauty therapist or how about hiring a hot tub! Even the children can be catered for with a Children’s Entertainer by prior arrangement.

Beautiful house

An excellent week’s holiday with welcoming staff to make our stay most enjoyable and pleasant. Even the rain did not affect our fantastic week, many interesting places to visit and lovely restaurants to dine. Osbourne House will remain in my memory forever as I am a lover of history. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your beautiful house and acres of land. We will be back.

Bank Holiday weekend heaven!

Our May Day bank holiday getaway with 3 other families to the Isle of Wight surpassed all our expectations when we arrived at The Hermitage. A beautiful, elegant, 10 bedroom house set in 11 acres of loveliness. The children immediately set about building dens while the adults sat relaxing on the sun drenched terrace! We had the most fantastic three days and we all want to come back next year!

A fabulous house

A fabulous house. Great weekend spent with 16 adults and 4 children to celebrate a 60th birthday. Weather awful but that didn't bother us with such fantastic facilities. Will definitely recommend and hope for a return visit.

The house is wonderful

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the house is wonderful and ideal for the occasion. There was plenty to do and plenty of space to just chill. There are some wonderful walks without having to get in the car and the scenery is quite spectacular, and we saw red squirrels which we haven't for many years.

WOW - What a place!

Having recently returned from a week in the Hermitage during the half term break, I can honestly say it was the perfect accommodation for us in every way. On arrival, we were all blown away by the beauty of the grounds and house itself and it was in a very secluded, therefore safe location. We were met by the Property Manager (Suzanne) who took the time to show us around the house and everything was in pristine condition. Being a group of 19 (10 adults and 9 children - ranging from 2 to 8 years old) we are always nervous about how a holiday home would cater for our needs and accommodate so many of us under one roof, but we were all blown away by the sheer size of the house and there was ample room for all of us… and then some. The sleeping quarters were fantastic, extremely clean, spacious (especially the 4 “Master” bedrooms) and tastefully decorated, with all rooms having en-suite facilities. There were travel cots and beds available making it easy to juggle the room configurations when the inevitable happened on the first night with the older children ending up in one room together! The en-suite bathrooms were all clean, modern and well stocked. What really made our stay perfect however, was the living quarters downstairs. The Kitchen was large and spacious with casual dining for the children’s dinner time and ideal for family breakfasts together. The formal dining room across the hall provided a great setting for the adult meals and, like the rest of the house, was beautifully presented and wanted for nothing. The garden provided a very safe and enjoyable environment for the kids and they were out there playing practically every minute that we were home. That said, the grounds are quite large so you do have to be vigilant keeping an eye on the little ones. The games room was well-stocked and provided us with the dream “Man Cave” to escape to, to enjoy Table Tennis, Pool and board games galore. There was also a large variety of outdoor games to play on the lawn with, so The Hermitage had thought of everything. As if this was not enough, there was also an additional play room for the younger children and a quiet TV room for the adults to find a few minutes of peace. It was only a 10-minute drive to nearby Ventnor, where there is a beach and a good selection of pubs and restaurants. We also recommend Blackgang Chine theme park which is again only 10 minutes away, The Wight Mouse Inn for it’s great food and outdoor play area, Steephill Cove for some of the best seafood around and finally Coasteering in Freshwater Bay for those more adventurous. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend The Hermitage to anyone and will definitely be returning again as I think we will struggle to find a holiday home that ticks so many boxes for our needs. Well done and thank you again for providing the setting for such a wonderful holiday

The Hermitage, Isle of Wight

We had a wonderful week at the Hermitage. The house managers were extremely helpful and accommodating. There was everything in the house from washing up liquid to potties and changing mats. We loved watching the badgers in the evenings. One down side is the large pond in the front garden (where the children's play area is) and getting to the paddock for playing games was not easy, but other than that, a lovely property in a lovely part of the world.

What a super holiday home

What a super holiday home. We have holidayed as a family for a lot of years and this definitely 'up there' as one of the best. Lot's of rooms and space so everyone can do their own thing, but also a social house too. Red squirrels a real treat, the pheasants and rabbits on the lawn. Overall a fabulous house and one we would high recommend to anyone. Thank you.

The Hermitage in the Isle of Wight

This splendid house on the Isle of Wight used to be an hotel but has now been tastefully modernised and with 10 good sized ensuite bedrooms it fitted our extended family of 17, perfectly. Situated near the south east corner of the Isle and up a mile long drive, we expected it to be a bit remote, but that was not the case. Though a car is essential you can be in Ventnor in 15/20 mins and in local shops in under 10.There are large ,well tended grounds around which are great for the children to play in (including a separate and new play area with slides swings ,wendy house etc). The house is a short, steep 400yard climb to the lovely St Catherine's Down and the Hoy Monument. Inside, the house is excellent. A superb modern Kitchen and dining areas which can seat 20 or more if required are the centre of the house, while there is a great and well equipped games room and a mini gym. Ther are also several other rooms which we found very useful as some of the children were able to study for exams, in peace! This is the ninth time we have holidayed together as a group for a week. We have been in Devon north and south. Hereford, Norfolk, Dorset and elsewhere on the isle of wight. By popular acclaim, this location has been the best of a very good bunch. Add to this the close attention and great help from the local Blue Chip agents, we give it a strong recommendation.

Best house...

We have had a family holiday every year for 8 years, this is the best house we have stayed in. Weather was cold to start with but once we had mastered the heating system everything was fine. Hugh bedrooms and the 4 doubles are lovely. The 9 children seemed to have happily used and spent hours in the games room.

The house is immaculate and the grounds stunning

We have had the most wonderful week staying in this beautiful house. We were greated by Lee who gave us all the information we could require and went above and beyond in letting us know if we needed anything to contact him. The house is immaculate and the grounds stunning. We explored the woodlands, went for walks, BBQ'd and played games in a warm fully equipped wonderful home. Thank you

Impressive Holiday Home With Large Grounds

The Hermitage is a large and impressive looking house with extensive grounds making it a private and secluded holiday home. Our group consisted of three families with grown-up (20-something) kids - 12 people in all. There are so many bedrooms so everyone could spread out (good for those with partners that snore!). The kitchen is well-equipped for eating 'in' and we used the kitchen table for dining, which seemed cozier than the huge stately table in the drawing room which seats 20. The games room, gym and snug was a big hit with the lads, while the older adults all found their own quiet place for reading. We all enjoyed exploring the grounds, though the boundaries are not clearly defined, and there were plenty of sightings of red squirrels. We also enjoyed the quiet location - it is approached by a long private bumpy road and the nearest shop is about 7 mins by car or about a 1.5 miles (3 miles round trip) walk along the bridal path and fields - which we liked, but the isolation may not be for everyone. Ventnor is about 17 mins by car and there are plenty of places to eat and some very good take-aways. The house was clean and spacious, the bedrooms large with basic furniture and all had en-suites. The shower water pressure wasn't good but there was always hot water available, which we have found to be a problem in previous holiday homes when several showers are in use. The Property Managers were welcoming and helpful and we appreciated the welcome basket with bread after our journey.
