You’ll find the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary between the resorts of Shanklin and Ventnor, and its friendly resident donkeys love to welcome visitors between April and October. Although the sanctuary relies on donations entry to the attraction is free, and it’s great fun watching the donkeys enjoy their retirement in their grassy paddock.
Visitors can pet the donkeys which makes this a lovely place to visit with children, and it’s great fun trying to match the donkeys to their descriptions and pictures. The donkeys have been rescued from all kinds of plights and countries, and the volunteers who have nursed them to health are always happy to tell visitors all about their lives and how they’re doing.
There’s a cafe and souvenir shop, and if you want to take a donkey home you can do the next best thing and adopt one before you leave. The sanctuary is ranked number one out of the family attractions in Ventnor on TripAdvisor and its many glowing reviews have gained it a Certificate of Excellence. Don’t miss the chance to drop by and see some great work in progress whilst you’re on the Isle of Wight, the donkeys are well worth calling in on.
