The Troll Trail, forming a part of the National Cycle Network, is unlike any other cycling route and a truly special experience for the whole family. Following the old railway track between Merstone and Newport you will not only cross flourishing and vibrant wildlife with a diverse flora and fauna but also the natural habitat of a small population of trolls!
As we all know, trolls tend to live under bridges so the large number the trail crosses will give you plenty of opportunity to be lucky and spot one of those very shy creatures. To help the sadly declining species, a terrace of House Sparrow boxes in place of Blackwater has been provided as well. However, the troll heads that accompany the numerous other pieces of art along the way will give you the opportunity to face one of them at all events.
Hand-carved picnic benches amidst new wildflowers at the wildlife meadow at Merstone Station alongside a chalk and turf maze invite you to take a refreshing break and appreciate the beautiful country scenery around you before heading back home chuffed and content after a happy day out.
