It may seem all sandy and family friendly by day, but the Isle of Wight also has something of a reputation as being one of the spookiest spots in the UK after nightfall, and it’s even known as ‘Ghost Island’...

Great for:

Superb venue for mixed family generations to celebrate an 80th. birthday.

Kingston Manor exceeded our expectations. Well-equipped catering facilities for our 14 family members with ages ranging from 6 to 80, plenty of space and things to do in the house and surrounding gardens. All enjoyed the hot tub and swim spa, also the games room with gym equipment. The whole house was almost too warm in spite of some cold nights, and storm Katy did not bother us. Beds very comfortable and bathrooms spotless. Alan, the local agent, responded quickly to our phone call reporting an electrical fault at Sunday lunch-time, and sorted the problem out We enjoyed a catered celebration dinner (booked with a local chef) and eaten in the atmospheric and grand surroundings of the Jacobean hall with a roaring log fire in the massive fireplace. We have booked large houses for family reunions twice every year for the last 10 years, and this was the best of the lot!

To the Manor Born

None of us were to the Manor Born but we ten have decades of holidays together and we have become pickier and pickier as we have become older and better off (lucky us) so our journey from Youth Hostels to Kingston Manor has been a steady climb. A peak experience is exactly what Kingston Manor provides, from its fine mellow stone work to its generous rooms and spotless presentation. We relaxed, walked the Downs and came back to the warm embrace of the Manor, dining in the elegant dining room and drinking in the comfortable drawing room, it was so easy to feel at home. We appreciated the generous, wine, milk, biscuits, juice etc left for our enjoyment and had we been staying longer we would have exploited the games room and the hot-tub. But the weather was on our side and we walked everyday so left the home entertainment alone. We used a caterer one night and dined in state, a good value and delightful way of saving anyone from the job of driver. Could anything be improved on, there is always something but its so good it seems picky to say. However because one of the things would be very easy to remedy I will venture that we would have liked more than two tea towels in the kitchen. The other thing was the lack of an accessible plug in the "second" bedroom. The only existing ones are behind the half tester bed and inaccessible. Not sure how easy that would be to fix - maybe an extension lead? But those were minor hardly dent the overall impression of a warm welcome a warm house and a fabulous setting. Thank you Sandie Redman

An idyllic week with the family at Kingston Manor

We got the whole family together, age range 21-91, for an idyllic week on the Isle of Wight at Kingston Manor. The space the manor afforded, and the wonderful setting made it a wonderful base where we could chill out, cook and explore the IoW.

Great for:

Brilliant venue for a family gathering

We were a family group, aged 8 months to 88 years and we were all very happy at the property. It is very well equipped and cosy and comfortable. A serene and picturesque location, safe and secure...a place for total relaxation and fun. There is plenty to entertain yourselves, with the games room, the library, the grounds and of course the swim spa/hot tub. We wish we had taken a week there. The Island itself is friendly and any attractions are within easy reach. That is if you want to leave the Manor ! We loved the Aga though we didn't always manage to use it to its best advantage. It makes the kitchen area a warm hub of activity many happy chatting times took place around that table. My birthday meal was a wonderful experience in the Great Hall, very atmospheric and so spacious. Lends itself so well to excellent photo moments and therefore memories. We would have loved there to be some outside lighting to the back of the property as we had planned an outside evening BBQ also we felt it would have been safer using the swim spa/hot tub with gentle illumination. Nothing too harsh as we noted the clear skies and stars over head. The manager was very helpful and any queries were kindly dealt with. We were delighted with Kingston Manor and hope to return .
