We keep our ears close to the ground on the island so that we can let you know which pubs and restaurants the locals are talking about, and this year it’s all been about The Taverners. Found in the pretty little village of Godshill, The Taverners is a pub and restaurant that keeps its focus on good food and local produce.
How’s this for a friendly welcome, you can take the extra produce from your own garden or allotment with you and exchange it for a beer! Blackboards list the fruit and veg that are currently in season and the menu will only feature those ones, and the New Forest Venison comes highly recommended. You name it, it’s grown on the island at this eatery – everything from the local fish, to the award-winning cheese and home-grown veg is as fresh and wholesome as it’s possible to find.
The garden has a children’s play area beside the pub’s vegetable patch, so there’s a real country feel to this pub that makes it perfect for those with young families. Wish you could take some of the ingredients home? There’s even a shop where you can pick many of the products up for yourself.
