Description

Golden Hill Fort is situated within 50 acres of Golden Hill Country Park. Originally built in 1863 in a distinctive hexagonal shape, which is elevated 60 metres above the North West coast of the Isle of Wight. This spectacular Grade I listed building has now been beautifully converted into 18 luxury houses.  Ideally located on the Western edge of the island it is the perfect place to visit many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The developers have succeeded in preserving the fort's historic and architectural significance and maintained many original features whilst adding the latest in modern conveniences. Internally, the property offers brick barrel vaulted ceilings flooded with coloured LED mood lighting, underfloor heating with solid oak floors and high quality built-in appliances. A sofa bed is available in the living area which can be used to accommodate two extra guests. Externally, the communal rooftop gardens (approximately 5,500 square metres), is where guests can enjoy stunning panoramic 360 degree views across the Solent, English Channel and countryside. These are the only landscaped rooftop gardens on a Grade I listed building in the country. The central courtyard is where the parking spaces are allocated and features a large water fountain.

The fort is situated near local tourist attractions such as the rugged white cliffs of Freshwater Bay, the multi-coloured sandstone cliffs of Alum Bay and the famous landmark Needles Rocks, footpaths, bridleways and horse riding are on your doorstep plus an 18-hole golf course which is located on the downs above Freshwater.

Local shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes are close by in Freshwater, Yarmouth or Totland. Colwell Bay is the nearest family beach and is a 15 minute walk away, while the popular surfing beach of Compton Bay is a short drive along the coast. The West Wight Sports centre, complete with swimming pool is based in Freshwater, perfect for entertaining the whole family.

Unique base for exploring

Fabulous time in Isle of Wight and our stay at Palmerston House had that wow factor. A unique base for exploring the island. The house is fabulous with everything you need and a great roof top view for miles around. Key collection and information was faultless. Will hopefully be visiting here again.

Palmerston House, Golden Hill Fort....WOW!

We have just come back from a 4 night break and all I can say is wow! From the initial wow factor of the fort to the excellent and informative meet and greet service from the fab Phil. On entering the propert the sheer wow factor took our breath away. Have never stayed somewhere where everything is such high spec. The mood lighting is fabulous and we had a lot of fun with that. The decor is modern and the kitchen is to die for. Everything you could possibly need was there and the milk in the fridge, chocolates and bottle of wine were a lovely touch. Beds were super comfortable and the showers excellent especially in the ensuite wet room. The views from the roof garden were awesome and would love to come back in the summer months and just sit up there with a glass of wine! Our only regret is that we wasn't there long enough! Will definitely be back.

Great House in Golden Hill Fort

Stayed for half term with my husband, and two children aged 15 and 19. Directions spot on to property and Phil, the keyholder, was waiting upon our arrival. He was full of information about the property and local area, and the welcome bottle of wine/chocolates was a nice touch. Upstairs the property has an open plan lounge/dining room and kitchen. The upstairs was wood flooring but it had underfloor heating which was lovely. There was plenty of wardrobe space. Was great that all bed linen and towels were included saving us packing some. The Fort has two staircases that go up to the roof gardens. Great 360 degree views and we saw a few sunsets. Palmerston House is ideally situated for the Needles Park which is only 10 minutes away. Freshwater is only 5 minutes drive away - it has a Sainsburys Local and Co-Op Supermarket which was handy. The property had free wifi which was great for all the family. Had a lovely weeks stay, and will definitely return, but in the summer months when we can appreciate more of the island's attractions, which were shut at this time of year.

Stress free booking, high quality accommodation and facilities

from the moment we booked we had excellent communications with blue chip. Pre arrival and handover from Phil was superb, with excellent tips of the local area. The accommodation was stunning, beautifully and sympathetically modernised an old fort. We also really enjoyed the I O W and will return again, most certainly with a blue chip property
