Freshwater sits on the most westerly tip of the Isle of Wight and not only is it a great place for an invigorating walk but Freshwater Bay is a friendly little beach that’s always popular with families. With a mixture of sand and shingle, the beach has a dramatic feel to it thanks to the looming cliffs at either end and it’s well-served by all those facilities that make a day out with the children much more fun.
You’ll find a car park just across the road and the beach is adjacent to the bus route, and the downs above the bay are home to an 18-hole golf course so golfers can enjoy the coastal views while they tee off. The beach has toilets and cafes close by too so although not the biggest of Isle of Wight beaches it’s a convenient one and makes a nice spot to spend some time out with the family.
Here’s a fact to impress your clan with while you’re there, Freshwater Bay was home to the Victorian Poet Laureate Tennyson, and the area’s views inspired him on his daily walks on the downs. Dogs are welcome all year.
