Cowes WeekCowes Week is not only a huge Isle of Wight event, it’s also one of the biggest sporting events in the UK. This annual event is usually held in August, and sees the port of Cowes transform into a hub of sailing activities and races. Competitors in the event range from amateurs to Olympic champions, and even if you prefer to enjoy the fun on dry land there are plenty of onshore ways to join in. With the best part of a thousand yachts taking part in the events each year, Cowes Week is a stunning event. Don't forget your camera!

Last Night of the Osborne PromsThis elegant event on the Isle of Wight is one of its most popular, and for many it wouldn’t be summer without it. The Last Night of the Osborne Proms is the perfect excuse to pack a picnic and your favourite bottle of wine and settle down for an evening of superb music and a good old sing song. Oh, and one thing’s pretty much compulsory – waving your miniature flag throughout! The usual favourites are guaranteed, such as Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Pomp and Circumstance.

The Isle of Wight FestivalThe island pulsates with noise each summer as The Isle of Wight Festival and its thousands of fans arrive. This Isle of Wight event is held at Newport and has now run for 14 years. It plays host to some of the music scene’s biggest names, and the 2011 line-up included the Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Kasabian and many more. There is a campsite for those who enjoy the full festival experience, although regular transport is available to and from the island, and surrounding areas throughout the festival. The Isle of Wight has a long history with the live music scene, and one of Jimi Hendrix’s last performances was held on the island.
