Ryde BeachRyde Beach is easily reached from the town centre, either on foot, by car or bus. This series of beaches wrap the coastline around Ryde Town is one of the most popular choices with those on Isle of Wight beach holidays – mainly due to its clear waters and silky sands. Boat trips operate from the beach to various parts of the island, and the many things to do nearby make it great fun for all ages. You’ll find gift shops, cafes, ice cream stands, as well as a trampoline, ice rink and splashpool for younger visitors.

Colwell BayColwell Bay isn’t the largest of the Isle of Wight beaches, but it’s sandy and clean with warm water (in the summer!). As the water is shallow it’s great for families and small children, and there are cafes, shops and facilities close by to keep you fed and watered. If you’re into your watersports Colwell Bay is a popular beach for jet skiing and the waters make it safe for swimming. Colwell Bay lies on the West side of the Isle of Wight, tucked between Yarmouth and the famous Needles.

SandownThe list of family-friendly Isle of Wight beaches goes on and on, and Sandown Beach in the South East is a great beach for water sports, and it offers a range of facilities. It’s very safe to bathe here, so if you’ve children or you’re not the most confident swimmer this is an ideal choice to enjoy the sea. There’s around a mile of sand to enjoy, and the pier offers family attractions such as crazy golf, rides and more. It’s a good idea to get here early on hot summer days, as the sand fills quickly!

Freshwater BeachAnother westerly favourite with those on Isle of Wight beach holidays, Freshwater Beach is a mixture of sand and shingle. This beach is quite small, with cliffs at each end, toilets and a cafe nearby. Freshwater Bay was once home to the famous poet Tennyson, and no doubt the lapping waters and dramatic cliffs helped inspire the poet laureate in his day! The downs above this pretty bay are home to an 18-hole golf course, so if you’re a golfer you can enjoy the views whilst you tee off. There’s a car park at Freshwater Beach too.

East Cowes BeachLast but not least, an old favourite with those on beach holidays on the Isle of Wight! East Cowes Beach is just a few minutes’ walk from the town, and it’s always been popular with visitors. The beach’s traditional facilities make this great for family days out, including a promenade and children’s playground – and there are great views to look out for. East Cowes boasts a Quality Coast Award, so it makes the perfect place for a safe day by the sea with clean sands, Inshore Rescue on hand and fantastic surroundings.
