The Gnome Reserve

The undisturbed, Ruby Country countryside between Bude and Bideford holds some surprises...as a Gnome Reserve is home to hundreds of very unusual residents! The Gnome Reserve is a lovely Holsworthy family attraction sprawled over 4 acres of pretty woodland and gardens, with a gnome around every corner.

The reserve is an enchanting experience for children – especially as all visitors receive a free gnome hat! As well as the chance to get some priceless family photos, The Gnome Reserve is great fun and visitors can watch model pixies and gnomes as they are created!

Holsworthy Museum

Housed in a 17 century manor house, Holsworthy Museum includes 5 rooms filled with the market town’s fascinating history. This engaging Holsworthy attraction is divided into 5 main rooms, each dedicated to a chapter of Holworthy’s past.

The rooms include the tools of former tradesmen, apothecary artefacts, the Second World War, medical items and a kitchen complete with its original flooring and fireplace. The main room includes details Holsworthy as a ‘port town’ and details its local customs and traditions. Holsworthy Museum is a great a great way to get to know the town ready for a stay in the area.

Hartland Abbey

Another Holsworthy family attraction in nearby Hartland, Hartland Abbey and Gardens, is unmissiable if you do make the short journey to the village. Just a stone’s throw from the dramatic north Devon coast, Hartland Abbey dates back to 1157 and opens its grounds to visitors.

A popular location for films, you may recognise the Hartland estate from Sense and Sensibility, Hercules, Gardener’s World, Treasure Island and many more films and series! One of the nicest things about Hartland is its emphasis on old fashioned fun for the children, so it has retained its charm!

The Milky Way Adventure Park

If your brood like adventure and thrills in a family attraction, The Milky Way Adventure Park near Bideford has them by the bag! The park is one of the most popular days out in Devon, and it's great for all ages.

The Milky Way Adventure Park is open all year round and is crammed with exhilarating rides, slides, live shows, and some of the scariest rollercoasters in the county!

There is also a great opportunity to try your hand at a new sport, such as archery, golf or target shooting – so the adults can have their fun too!

Docton Mill Gardens

Just a short drive from Holsworthy, Hartland boasts the beautiful Docton Mill gardens, a great find for families looking for Holsworthy attractions! Docton Mill Gardens are open from 1 March until the 31 October and offer stunning wild flower displays for every season.

Award-winning beds of colour line traditional garden ponds, and there's a vegetable garden, tea rooms to admire. The perfect English country gardens, Docton Mill gardens' narcissi displays outdo themselves every year, and it’s worth noting that the cream teas were voted the best in Devon in 2005!
