Saint's WayThe Saints’ Way runs across the county from Padstow to Fowey, and is a long distance footpath at 30 miles. The route follows the path once trodden by pilgrims and missionaries throughout the dark ages, and is now a great way to explore Cornwall through some Padstow and Fowey walks. The best thing about Saints’ Way is that as it transcends the county those who walk it encounter countryside, rivers, coast and farmland – getting an insight into the diversity of the county as they go. Keep your eyes peeled if you do walk a section of this trail, as it’s often the scene of many historical finds.

Fowey Coastal PathThe South West Coast Path runs between Fowey and St Austell, and through Polruan in between, so this provides plenty of Fowey walks that make the most of the pretty coastal views. This section of the South West Coast path starts at Readymoney Cove, and there are several spots between Fowey and Par where you can pick it up for a walk to suit you. A large amount of this section of coastline belongs to the National Trust, and you’ll be treated to unforgettable views no matter which section you choose to stroll.

Hall WalkHall Walk is one of the most popular Fowey walks, largely because it offers fantastic views of the estuary. This is a circular walk with plenty of variety and sections along the banks of the River Fowey. The walk also includes a journey on the Bodinnick ferry and the opportunity to extend the walk to Polruan. One of the best things about this walk, aside from the scenery, is the number of benches along the way – so there’s plenty of opportunity for a well earned rest. This walk isn’t recommended for those with pushchairs or wheelchair users, and it’s worth noting that sections of it are quite steep.

Guided Fowey WalksMuch of the Fowey area has connections with the esteemed author Daphne du Maurier, as she lived in Fowey. Her novels included The Jamaica Inn, Rebecca and Frenchman’s Creek and each of them was inspired by the rugged Cornwall that she loved. If you’re interested in the life and work of Daphne du Maurier, there are several guided Fowey walks that include all the places relevant to her life and work. Blue Badge guide Lynne Goold offers specialised walks about du Maurier’s Cornwall. Fowey was also the inspiration for the Wind in the Willow tales, and Lynne also offers guided walks and boat trips for fans of the works by Kenneth Grahame.
