Fowey AquariumIts position on the seaside is one of Fowey’s biggest charms, and the Fowey Aquarium is the perfect Fowey attraction to learn more about its connection with the sea and the species found there. With the added intrigue of its position beneath the old town hall, the aquarium includes exhibits of the sealife found locally, and it makes for an engaging way for children to learn more about the coast during their stay. The highlight of most visits is the touch tank, which enables visitors to touch some of the fish for themselves! This is also a great attraction if you’re on a budget, as entry is just £1.

Tregrehan GardensTregrehan Garden is one of the most beautiful family attractions in Fowey, and it’s just a 15 minute drive away in Par. The garden is open between April and August, but it’s best to check the opening days before you go as they vary from month to month. Tregrehan Garden is a spectacular woodland garden with a peaceful atmosphere and a diverse range of plant life to admire. The Carlyon family who own the garden have been avid gardeners since the 17 century, and the camellia breeding programme is the latest project implemented in it by Miss Carlyon. |

Fowey MuseumFowey Museum is open between May and September, and is a fascinating Fowey attraction, especially for those with a passion for history. The museum is packed full of displays and artefacts, including naval, political and military objects and there’s an emphasis on the seafaring heritage of Fowey too. Things to look out for include photographs and ship sails from Fowey’s maritime heritage, and the cloak of the Italian military leader General Garibaldi. The museum is situated in the oldest area of the town, and there is a small charge to enter.

River ExpeditionsThe waters around Fowey inspired the Wind in the Willows Tales from the River Bank, so the Fowey River Expedition is the perfect Fowey family attraction for getting a taste of the town. Glide between the banks of the River Fowey in the safety of an open cockpit canoe and imagine the adventures of the characters of Kenneth Grahame as you go. You’ll pass picturesque wooded hills and National Trust water meadows as you travel several miles upstream, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve never canoed before as you’ll be followed by a safety boat for peace of mind!

St Catherine's CastleSt Catherine’s Castle isn’t the largest family attraction in Fowey, but it’s one of the oldest! The castle overlooks the pretty Readymoney Cove and was built by Henry VIII to defend against the Spanish raids. It underwent restoration in 1855 and can still be reached from the beach below via steps. The castle is largely ruined, but admission is free and you can still explore the gun emplacements and battlements that surround it. St Catherine’s Castle is well worth a walk to take a look around, and it’s a great finishing point for a walk too.
