Exmouth BeachExmouth Beach is the East Devon beach for those who love a traditional stretch of seaside with all the charms of its Victorian heyday! Exmouth Beach has an open feel, and with 2 miles of sand there’s plenty of room to enjoy it, even in the busier months. The beach is sheltered by a long sea wall, which backs it, and the promenade beyond has shops and eateries. There are toilets and disabled facilities on the beach itself as well as parking for up to 1000 cars close by. There is also a lifeguard service during high season, and the waters are popular with bathers, fishermen and jet skiers.

Sidmouth BeachSidmouth is another favourite East Devon beach. with visitors and residents alike. Sidmouth Beach is mainly pebble but there can be sand at low tide, and the mile-long beach is great for a walk along in the water as the tide goes out! Sidmouth Beach is one of the prettiest beaches in East Devon – with the red cliffs to its east side making it a stunning sight. The promenade behind the beach and its rows of Georgian buildings give Sidmouth an elegant feel, making it a great beach for a stroll at any time of year. Look out for Jacobs Ladder, a flight of steps that connect the cliff top to the beach below!

Seaton BeachSeaton is one of the more unique East Devon beaches, as it is part of the fascinating Jurassic Coast AND in an Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty! Perched at the mouth of the River Axe within the Axe Valley, Seaton Beach is a favourite for water sports and activities. If you decide to relax on the pebbles of the beach rather than in the sea - you’ll be treated to the sight of sailboats, windsurfers and divers while you unwind. The gentle slope to this pebbly beach makes it a safe place to swim and paddle, and as this is one of the smaller East Devon beaches it’s often less crowded than many.

Lympstone BeachLympstone Beach stands out from the other beaches in East Devon for one reason – the residents hang their laundry to dry along it! The shingle beach on the Exe Estuary is often brightened by the sight of lines of washing drying in the breeze – a tradition long kept by the villagers. The beach lines an unspoilt village, and as there is no wall protecting the houses backing onto it metal flood gates are in place for the event of a warning being issued to residents. If bad weather looms, the residents close their own flood gates to protect the properties from damage.

Shelley Beach, ExmouthShelly Beach in Exmouth is a quieter choice than its main beach, and although sandy it is very tidal – so please be careful not to be stray too far from the access points as there is a risk of becoming cut off. Also, swimming is not advised due to strong estuary currents, but the this beach welcomes dogs all year round so it’s a picturesque spot for a walk on a dog-friendly East Devon beach holiday! The beach is also a great one for fishing and other water activities, although it is not lifegaurded.
