Description

Lavender Cottage is set in a peaceful location in the picturesque village of Sutton Poyntz, close to Overcombe Beach and only a short drive into Weymouth.

Internally, this period property is furnished to a high standard throughout including Egyptian cotton sheets in all bedrooms, luxury towels, Farrow and Ball paint and William Morris wallpaper. Also in keeping with the era the property has many character features including, two open fireplaces, wood burner, ornate coving, oak floor and stone floor as well as gas central heating throughout. Externally, there is a pretty enclosed courtyard garden complete with furniture and barbeque, ideal for al fresco dining.

Sutton Poyntz is a traditional Dorset village complete with thriving local Inn and duck pond. There are two other local pubs, shops, an Italian restaurant and Overcombe Beach, all only a short walk away. A regular bus service runs into Weymouth and stunning coastal and country walks are minutes away. All this makes Lavender Houses the ideal base for a relaxing holiday.

Weymouth is only a short drive away and has lots to offer, from family fun to sophisticated evenings out. The town centre has plenty of well-known high street shops, a cinema and an abundance of cafes, restaurants and bars. The level seafront stretches for three miles, taking in the town centre and along to the vibrant harbour. An area near the harbour called Brewers Quay is great for people watching and stepping back in time to the 14th century in the Timewalk Museum.

This property especially welcomes children. There is a cot, highchair and steriliser available. For older children there is a separate lounge area with a Wii games console and an enclosed garden. Buckets, spades, fishing nets, cool box and picnic rugs are also provided for family days out.

Great family house, close to Weymouth

We were a group of six, 4 adults 2 children and the house couldn't have been better. With 2 reception rooms and a separate dining area, there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. The quality of the furnishing and linen was excellent and the beds comfortable. The house is in the beautiful village of Sutton Poyntz. There are 3 pubs, 2 fish and chip shops and a co op within easy walking distance. We didn't sample any of the local fare, but did order a Chinese takeaway which was very good from Jade Gardens in Weymouth. The road down to the duck pond is steep and busy if you have small children with you, but is well worth it. There is a fabulous 360 degree view from the hill to be found if you walk straight ahead out of the driveway. We wish that we had a lot longer there. Weymouth was really lovely and the kids had a ball on the beach. The house would be particularly lovely in the winter with big roaring fires in every room. We wouldn't hesitate to return. And a nice tough is the generous toiletries and welcome pack when we arrived!!!

Lavender Cottage

Some holiday cottages and apartments feel a little clinical and bare but not Lavender Cottage. The owners have put so much love into this house and it shows. It is beautifully decorated and furnished in keeping with the age of the property. But it's the small touches that make this place truly special. Beautiful artwork and old photographs and lovely coal buckets and companion sets by the fire. The house was completely spotless with lovely crisp white sheets and some of the biggest, softest towels I've ever seen. There was a lovely little welcome basket waiting for us containing some lovely goodies, which we promptly his from the children so we could enjoy them later! There were plenty of buckets, spades and fishing nets for the kids and the enclosed garden was great and we felt happy letting our toddler play out there on her own as it was so secure. The location is great. You feel like you're bang in the middle of the English countryside and a walk down to the village pub is highly recommended. Make sure you take some bread for the ducks on the way though. The only giveaway that you are so close to the coast is the sound of the seagulls in the morning. It's then only a three minute drive to the nearest beach and about 10 minutes into Weymouth which is a perfect beach for young kids with donkey rides and the best sand in England to build the perfect sandcastle. We were very sad to leave!

Lavender Cottage, Weymouth

From the initial internet search to the end of the Holiday, everything ran like clockwork. Texts and emails confirming every step of the pre arrival process took all of the worry away. The cottage was very well laid out, with more than enough pots, pans, knives and forks. If cooking is not your thing then the Springhead Pub (5 min walk) serves a lovely menu as does the Bridge Inn (10min walk) We love Weymouth, we loved Lavender Cottage, and Blue Chip Holidays made everything so easy.

Relaxing week.

Lavender cottage was a lovely old stone cottage in a very quite location and only 5 minutes drive from Weymouth Town. Clean and tidy and walking distance to shops and local pubs. Definitely recommended.

Lovely place, lovely village.

Lavender Cottage was lovely, tucked away from the main road, so nice and quiet. We had a smaller party than expected so we had lots of room, although as there are five TV's, along with games consoles and CD/DVD players, with two separate lounges, I don't think it would have been cramped at all even with full occupancy. You really didn't need to take anything other than beach towels as everything else was provided for, along with a welcome basket and complimentary shampoos, hand creams etc ... and toilet roll and spare wellies! Upstairs: The bedrooms were lovely, light and clean, with a nice big landing so each room felt quite private. The main bathroom was lovely, but I would recommend that care is taken when using the roll-top bath, as although lovely to look at, it is very deep when trying to clamber out - but that could just be my old creaking bones! Downstairs: The snug and lounge are both decorated beautifully, with furniture to fit with the period ... and having two rooms gives everyone space. It's darker downstairs but if you open the inner front door it is lovely and light again. The dining area is cottage style, with everything you need. The kitchen is small but all you need is there. The garden is small but secure for pets/children, but it looked a little uncared for. Sutton Poyntz itself is a beautiful village ... our second visit there ... and would recommend it to everyone. There's lots to do in the area, along with a pubs/takaways within walking distance - what more could you ask for.
