Description

2 Appletree Cottage is tucked away in the quiet village of Sixpenny Handley near the town of Shaftesbury. Thought to be a former estate workers cottage for Rushmore Estate, parts of the cottage are believed to date back to 1866.

This charming, semi-detached two bedroom cottage is full of character and is a perfect example of old meets new with its traditional decor and modern conveniences. The rural setting is the perfect escape for those looking to embrace the outdoors, providing an excellent retreat for guests to enjoy walking, cycling or riding.

The cottage is ideally based to benefit from 7500 acres of ancient woodland, providing a diverse array of flora and fauna. The estate has been shaped for the pleasure of the local people, providing stunning gardens that house a theatre, temple and water garden and a redesigned golf course.

A short drive away is the historic market town of Shaftesbury, that offers stunning views of the surrounding Dorset countryside as one of the highest towns in England. Shaftesbury offers rural charm, with quaint cottages and cobbled streets and its thriving town offers an abundance of independent shops, restaurants and cafes to enjoy.

2 Appletree Cottage

We had high hopes for the cottage and it beat our expectations. Thank you for the welcome treats! We loved our stay and are sad to leave. Our best day say us explore Corfe Castle and get the steam train to Swanage, while for food the Dorset Burger Company in Weymouth is a must!

2 Appletree Cottage

We have enjoyed a lovely four night break. The house is well equipped and furnished beautifully. So cosy when the fire is roaring. Our daughter enjoyed a walk through the woods we were pleased to be in such a peaceful, rural location.

We really enjoyed our short break - even in the rain. It was particularly nice to have the wood stove and a well equipped kitchen

2 Appletree Cottage

A really enjoyable stay. Perfect location for walking and running even in the bad weather. Home from home. Enjoyed the chocolate and champagne a lovely touch of Christmas. The house has been renovated to a really high spec perfect for us city folk. I imagine the location is perfect in the summer when you can take full advantage of the garden and patio doors. Hopefully we will be back in 2014!

2 Appletree Cottage

My partner and our toddler had a lovely autumn break at Apple Cottage. The cottage was a perfect size with a well-equipped kitchen and lovely wood burning fire. Great base for walks in the wood, visiting Dorset, WIltshire and Hampshire attractions.

2 Appletree Cottage

Our stay at 2 Appletree Cottage was really enjoyable. The cottage is located off the beaten track in Sixpenny Handley and is rather remote -perfect for a break away from it all. As the first guests to the cottage we found it to be beautifully presented, clean and tastefully furnished. We found the cottage a great base to visit Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, The New Forest amongst others and the owners recommendations of places to eat were superb. The log burner is a lovely feature and we found it essential to getting the cottage cozy and warm. The owners welcome pack including details about the cottage wifi settings and how to get the fire going was very easy to follow. We particularly enjoyed eating breakfast in the dining area - enjoying the views and feeling the warmth of the sun behind the floor to ceiling bi-fold doors. We highly recommend the cottage to couples looking for a break away in Dorset.
