Dorset isn’t just about getting sandy on the beach and improving your sandcastle making skills, Upton Country Park is a great day out for the whole family. Take some time out during a holiday in Poole with a visit to everyone’s favourite walking spot Upton Country Park.
The park has five Green Flag Awards to its name (Green Flags recognise the country’s best green spaces) thanks to its wide open spaces and unspoilt scenery. The newly landscaped walled garden once produced all the fresh fruit and vegetables the main house needed, and these days its main attraction is the water feature that the kids love to get soaked in during the summer.
You can take your dog with you to the park, although he must stay on his lead throughout the gardens, the parkland and on the shoreline. Who doesn’t love a traditional English garden? Update your family photos with some snaps in the colourful Formal Gardens which encircle the house. This rather grand garden is home to a rose garden, a heather garden, trees, shrubs and a herbaceous border.
Once you’ve wandered the Formal Gardens why not venture further afield and enjoy the woodlands and shoreline? Children are welcome to enjoy both and have a run around, and they make just the places for family walks.
