Events don’t come much more traditional than the Great Dorset Steam Fair, and it takes place every year in the pretty little village of Tarrant Hinton right in the heart of Dorset’s famous countryside. The show is one of the world’s leading steam fairs, and it’s held in one of the largest outdoor arenas in Europe.
So what can you expect to see? The event not only welcomes hundreds of steam vehicles from all over the world, but it also showcases heavy horses, live music, displays and plenty to keep the children entertained. For many, the heavy haulage road locomotives are the highlight of every year, and visitors will get the chance to see them in action as they pull vast loads across the showground.
The old time steam funfair is another favourite, and more than 60 showman’s engines power traditional roundabouts, swing boats and all to the sounds of dozens of organs playing over the crowds.
The many vehicles that appear at the fair each year include steam tractors, lorries, ploughing engines and timber loading and haulage vehicles – so there really is something for everyone. The event always includes live stunt displays to wow the crowds too, so expect to see monster trucks and some of the world’s leading motorcycle display teams.
