Sandbanks Beach has a reputation as one of Dorset’s most striking stretches of sand, and it comes into its own every summer when it hosts the Beach Volleyball Festival. The festival is the biggest free volleyball tournament in Britain and it attracts some of the sport’s finest players.
The two-day event tends to see more than 500 competitors take to the sand and fight for the title of champion, and as it’s free to spectate there are always huge crowds on hand to cheer them on. If you thought sand was made for creating sandcastles and lying back in the sun then this event will change your mind, and competitors hail from all over Europe.
