Steam through the history of Dorset on this nostalgic Purbeck family attraction and experience the thrill of a steam train. The Swanage Railway takes passengers on a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the stunning countryside of Dorset, rolling for 6 miles.
The Santa Specials trips have become legendary throughout the South West, and for many children Christmas now means meeting Santa aboard a steam train while their parents tuck into mince pies. The train routes pass through unspoilt scenery that’s unchanged from the days when steam ruled the tracks, and the majestic Corfe Castle looks all the better as you chug past it in style.
There are stations at Corfe Castle, Harman’s Cross and Herston, so it’s not only a great experience but a useful connection to some of the surrounding villages and resorts. Hop on and off for a day and take the opportunity to explore some of the county’s most historic locations. There are events on the railway throughout the year, so check before you go to see what’s going on.
There’s good news for those of you who like to travel with your pet, dogs are welcome aboard for a small fee and bikes are carried on the trains free of charge.
