With the quirky setting of a former milk factory, the Boilerhouse Gallery in Purbeck is an informal, friendly gallery run by local artists. The gallery is dedicated to showcasing the work of the artists from the area, so if you want an insight into life and art in Dorset then drop in and say hello. Many of the textiles and paintings on display reflect the artists’ experiences of Purbeck, and the photography captures coastal life.
It can be tricky choosing gifts to take to those back home during a holiday, and the Boilerhouse Gallery sells beautiful pieces that are straight from the heart of Purbeck. Items include driftwood, paintings, sculptures, cards, glass gifts and prints. You’ll find the gallery and workshop opposite just opposite the Corfe Caste railway station, so if you travel to Corfe by train for a look around make sure you have a look around before you leave incase you want to pick up some momentos from your visit.
There are several working studios on the same site, and the artists who use them vary from ceramics experts to photographers and stone sculptors. You never quite know what you’re going to discover at this unassuming gallery, but you can always expect a warm welcome.
