There’s no family attraction quite like the Tank Museum in Dorset’s Bovington, and it brings the world of tanks to life in a way that’s great fun for the whole family. Home to the world’s largest collection of tanks, the museum includes live displays and The Trench Experience to help visitors gain a lifelike insight into what on the frontlines is really like.
Wander the exhibitions that demonstrate the tale of the tank for the last century, and get up close to real tanks and associated artefacts so you don’t miss a thing. Find out what life was like before tanks were invented and how they cope in harsh conditions – it’s a learning curve as well as a must-see attraction for those on Dorset holidays.
If you time your visit right you’ll be treated to one of the infamous Tank Action Displays that are held in the museum’s arena. We’ve all seen tanks on the news and in war documentaries, but the sight of them trundling their way across an arena at close range is something altogether different, so we’d recommend timing your visit to the museum with one of the displays if you can.
There are dressing up clothes for the little ones and free family activity trails to keep younger children entertained, and the outdoor play area is a welcome excuse for the parents to take the weight off their feet.
