You’ll find Dorchester’s Borough Gardens tucked away just minutes from the town centre and they’re a handy place to spend a few hours enjoying time out during a holiday in Dorchester. Borough Gardens have all the features of a traditional park, including tennis courts, a play area for the little ones, a bowling green, a clock tower, beautiful flower beds and the centrepiece – a bandstand.
There’s a snack bar in the gardens, but to be honest this is one of those places that makes you want to unpack a picnic and take your time and if you pick the right summer’s day there may even be an event on.
Regular events include a Teddy Bear’s Picnic (which always goes down a storm with the children) and live bands performing in the bandstand so check what’s on before visiting Dorchester. The gardens are open to the public all year and all facilities are free – and the nostalgic events are a lovely way to enjoy them.
The garden’s location close to the town centre makes it easy to go and enjoy an al fresco lunch on the grass before heading off to the next attraction on your itinerary so keep it up your sleeve ready for when it’s time to take the weight off your feet.
