Similarly to the way in which Rick Stein holds the seafood crown in Cornwall, the Dorset seafood foodie scene is all about Mark Hix. Hix Oyster and Fish House overlooks Lyme Regis harbour (and the famous Cobb of course), and with panoramic sea views across the Jurassic Coast it’s one of the most scenic settings to tuck into British seafood.
The menu showcases locally sourced seafood throughout the year, and common stars of the show include Lyme Regis crab, Lyme Bay gurnard and Whitsand Bay ling. Hix hails from Dorset, and his passion for the region and its seafood shines through with every dish.
The Fish House is a relaxed, airy dining room with plenty of space for diners to enjoy time out and feel unhurried, and as the restaurants’ ethos is to leave each dish as untouched as possible you can expect good, simple seafood served with style. There’s live music every Thursday night, so if you’re staying nearby and you fancy sampling some of the county’s acclaimed fish then you’ll find a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere.
