Boscombe Beach is more of an attraction than a stretch of coastline and it’s part of the seven miles of Bournemouth beach that won the title of the ‘Best Beach in Britain’ from Coast readers back in 2008. This beach lies just to the east of Bournemouth and thanks to an overhaul of the Overstrand it now enjoys some of the best public facilities on the south coast.
If you fancy a day off from the hustle and bustle of the main Bournemouth beach head to Boscombe, you’ll find the views just as spectacular and everything you need to keep the whole family entertained for the day – it’s just quieter than its neighbour.
The Overstrand complex is packed with leisure facilities that make Boscombe Beach a great place to enjoy water sports, family fun or just the chance to snooze on the sand. The beach is backed by a whole selection of cafes and restaurants, souvenir shops (and the all-important loos), and if you feel like embracing the local lifestyle you’ll find surf hire outlets to help get you started with a board.
What’s an English beach holiday without a pier to be proud of? Boscombe Pier doesn’t disappoint, and if you wander to the end of it you’ll be treated to views of the Isle of Wight in one direction and the Isle of Purbeck in the other. Time it right and you’ll be able to watch the sun sink behind the reef...now that’s when you’ll really feel like you’re on holiday. Please note that restrictions apply for dogs.
