The crew of Newquay’s RNLI lifeboat demonstrate their lifesaving skills at this event in Watergate Bay every summer, and the programme always includes displays, live entertainment and the opportunity to look around inside the lifeboat station. The event not only teaches all ages about the important work the lifeboat crews carry out in all weathers, but it also raises much-needed funds for the RNLI.
Demonstrations include rescue dog and helicopter displays as well as the chance to see the lifeboats in action on the waves. Lifeboat Day is fun for the whole family, and there are amazing displays and demonstrations, live entertainment and dozens of stalls to browse. Volunteer crew members and station representatives are always on hand to welcome members of the public and answer any questions, so the event is a unique one that enables visitors to see the workings of the lifeboat station at close quarters.
Highlights have also been known to include appearances from The Royals Artillery parachute team, HMCG Tug, Anglian Princess, Newquay Coastguards, Fire & rescue, Newquay rowing club, Padstow sea cadets and Tae Kwon Do. This is a real community event and the local harbour master usually has a role to play in the fun and games too.
