It’s all eyes to the sky for three days each August as the Bournemouth Air Festival takes place. The four day event attracts over 1.4 million spectators from all over the country, and regular highlights include demonstrations from the Royal Navy, the army and of course the RAF. The 2014 programme started with a wing walk by a 94 year old, and it also included displays from the Red Arrows, Vulcan, Canberra, the Rolls Royce Spitfire and many more aircraft.
There’s always just as much to see and do on the ground as there is in the air, and as night closes in there are special dusk air shows that make for dramatic viewing for all ages. Each evening closes with a firework display too, and there’s a family atmosphere at this event that makes it a popular one year after year. The entertainment after nightfall sees some of the biggest names on the music scene take to the stage, and the 2014 guests included Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Rizzle Kicks and Tony Hadley.
