Description

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Chisel Barn is a new conversion designed and fitted to the highest standards. The barn consists of two, light and airy properties that, if rented together, will accommodate ten people. Both properties are single storey, with a large, double height kitchen and living space.

Chisel Barn Whites Ground is furnished to a high standard throughout and offers spacious and stylish accommodation. The property retains many original features including exposed beams and limestone flooring. The property is set in stunning countryside and offers far reaching views from the furnished terrace.

The barns were the base for a large and successful dairy enterprise and remain part of a working farm, with the adjoining buildings still actively being used for stock.

The magnificent and commanding views look over the River Stour valley, the dairy pastures of the Blackmore Vale, the churches of Shillingstone and Child Okeford to the south and west, and the Iron Age forts of Hambledon Hill to the north and Hod Hill to the east. A short walk across the farm takes you through a wood and past a lake to the excellent amenities of Child Okeford, or up the steep slopes to the top of Hambledon Hill where, on a clear day, there are views for many miles. Hambledon Hill is a classic example of an Iron Age hill fort and is now a National Nature Reserve famous for its wild flowers.

This is just one of many and varied walks which also include the Trailway along the old Somerset and Dorset Railway (and the newly restored Shillingstone station) to Sturminster Newton and Blandford Forum.

For Guests who wish to bring their horses, Chisel Barn offers the ideal setting and facilities as detailed below:

  • Basic barn stabling and grazing is available at an additional charge of £10 a horse
  • Bedding available by arrangement
  • Guests would need to supply their own feed, water buckets and equipment
  • Use of a Cross Country Course (beginner to 3’3”) is available at Chisel Barn and forms part of the working farm. Usage is dependent on availability and farm usage, please discuss requirements at the time of booking

If you are interested in bringing your horse to Chisel Barn please call the bookings team on 033 3902 6565 to discuss your requirements.

For larger groups Chisel Barn Whites Ground can be booked together with Chisel Barn Foxditch to accommodate groups of up to ten.

Delightful home from home in Dorset countryside

We are a family of 5 adults, who spent Christmas 2013 at Whites Ground, Chisel Barn, having found it on the internet. We arrived to a warm, modern home with comfortable sofas and beds and a reasonably well-equipped kitchen, all beautifully prepared for us.

Easy way to choose a break away!

We were looking for a specific type of venue for a girls weekend, after searching through the easy to use website (snaptrip) we found our ideal venue, booking was easy, we received a call almost immediately to finalise the booking and confirm info. All directions and key information were emailed and we had a great time! Thank you.

Chisel White Ground was the best holiday rental we have ever had in 30 odd years. The barn is very spacious and immaculately clean. The fields around are very well kept, and the bridle ways go through onto the local hills and woods..Our dogs were in heaven.

The perfect countryside retreat

We are a family of four - A(48) J(50) B(22) J(17) and Kizzie dog(15) - we found Chisel Barn lived up to the description and was even better than the photos when we arrived. The location was perfect, only 5 miles from Blandford Forum and yet surrounded by beautiful countryside, rolling hills, fields with sheep and horses and calves in the barns opposite our holiday home from home. The barn was very spacious and had every possible comfort, we were enjoying a well earned break and visiting family in the area and found the barn ideal to invite Aunties, Uncles and cousins to join us for a catch-up. We were surprised and delighted to find a welcome pack including all the essentials plus a lovely vase full of fresh daffodils :) We did have a couple of queries and phoned the owners who popped round within a few minutes and were extremely pleasant and helpful. We would recommend Chisel Barn to anyone and will definitely be returning in the future.

Chisel Barn Whites Ground

Set in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside, in the shadow of Hambledon Hill, this luxury holiday home is the perfect base for families wishing to enjoy a relaxing holiday. Lovingly furnished throughout, with a light and airy feel, you will feel right at home at Chisel Barn Whites Ground. A spacious garden also gives children plenty of room to indulge themselves, while there is nothing better than sitting on the patio and watching the sun go down on a summer's evening, with a glass of something cool and refreshing.

Chisel Barn Whites Ground

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was very comfortable and very tasteful. The views and weather were perfect and the barn a great base for exploring the countryside. A huge thank you to the Sunnucks family and Hebe, Poppa, Chika and Gretel for making us feel so welcome and for all the useful information they provided. We will be telling our friends and family about Chisel Barn and this lovely part of the world. We very much hope to be back again in future.

Chisel Barn Whites Ground

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first-ever Dorset holiday- made all the better by this lovely house and the fantastic weather! The house is in a great location, with superb views all around and it offered us the perfect base for the week and had everything we needed. Little touches like the welcome pack and flowers were greatly appreciated and made us feel really welcome. We enjoyed a pleasant walk across the fields to Child Okeford, where our children found a playpark to have some fun, while the village shop and organic shop were also very handy. We also made full use of the garden/lawn where our children had endless fun. We hope to visit again in the future!

Chisel Barn Whites Ground

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely house. We have thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay and have found the home wonderful. Our young girls enjoyed saying hello to the horses each morning and long walks through the fields to the lambs. During our stay we had many very nice days out, including Snape Railway, Farmer Palmers and Monkey World, all well worth a visit for the family. We look forward to seeing you again.

Chisel Barn Whites Ground

We have loved every minute of our stay in this just lovely tranquil area. We really enjoyed the welcome pack. Thank you. We found the freedom to explore the farm relaxing. The house was a home from home. All the beds and sofa were very comfortable. I wish we had had appropriate weather to try the log fire. Maybe next time. The country views are breathtaking and will be missed. Thank you from us all for a lovely time, we will recommend it to our friends.

Peace, Quiet and 5 Star all the Way

Wonderful accommodations in an lovely farm setting of fields, sheep and rolling hills. You will need a car to stay here but if you are serious about touring England you will want a car anyway as the best of England does not lie in the cities. I would highly recommend this for those who enjoy the better things in life!

Amazing Holiday

In July 15 we visited White Grounds Barn near Blandford Forum, the location was amazing and the Barn was exquisite! The views were a amazing with lots of local walks and bike rides. The property was exactly as advertised and exceeded our expectations. The only downside was the lack of local decent eateries! But we overcame this by having bbqs and cooking ourselves! We would visit again and would recommend a stay here. The fresh flowers provided were a lovely touch and we miss the peace and tranquillity!

Lovely weekend in the countryside

Chisel Barn was absolutely wonderful. We were a party of 3 couples and a dog and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was beautifully presented and well equipped. Lovely wood burner and we enjoyed the table tennis. Charlie the dog enjoyed his walks through the countryside - despite the rain! A lovely place to relax on a cold winters day.
