Description

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Chisel Barn is a new conversion designed and fitted to the highest standards. The barn consists of two, light and airy properties that, if rented together, will accommodate ten people. Both properties are single storey, with a large double height kitchen and living space.

Chisel Barn Foxditch retains many original features including exposed beams and vaulted ceilings. The property has two bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms, plus a cloakroom. The furnished terrace is the ideal place to relax and admire the spectacular views.

The barns were the base for a large and successful dairy enterprise and remain part of a working farm, with the adjoining buildings still actively being used for stock.

The magnificent and commanding views look over the River Stour valley, the dairy pastures of the Blackmore Vale and the churches of Shillingstone and Child Okeford to the south and west, and the Iron Age forts of Hambledon Hill to the north and Hod Hill to the east. A short walk across the farm takes you through a wood and past a lake to the excellent amenities of Child Okeford, or up the steep slopes to the top of Hambledon Hill where, on a clear day, there are views for many miles. Hambledon Hill is a classic example of an Iron Age hill fort and is now a National Nature Reserve famous for its wild flowers.

This is just one of many and varied walks which also include the Trailway along the old Somerset and Dorset Railway (and the newly restored Shillingstone station) to Sturminster Newton and Blandford Forum.

For Guests who wish to bring their horses, Chisel Barn offers the ideal setting and facilities as detailed below:

  • Basic barn stabling and grazing is available at an additional charge of £10 a horse
  • Bedding available by arrangement
  • Guests would need to supply their own feed, water buckets and equipment
  • Use of a Cross Country Course (beginner to 3’3”) is available at Chisel Barn and forms part of the working farm. Usage is dependent on availability and farm usage, please discuss requirements at the time of booking

If you are interested in bringing your horse to Chisel Barn please call the bookings team on 033 3902 6565 to discuss your requirements.

For larger groups Chisel Barn Foxditch can be booked together with Chisel Barn Whites Ground to accommodate groups of up to ten.

Booking with Blue Chip was simple. Staff were very helpful & pleasant regarding any queries I had. Would certainly recommend them to anyone thinking of using them.

We stayed in Chisel Barn Foxditch for 5 very peaceful days. The accommodation was superb. Key was easy to find & we were very impressed with the bread, eggs, butter, milk etc.---no charge! when we arrived. There was everything you could possibly want in the kitchen, & of very good quality. The manager called in the evening to see if we had any problems which we did'nt but the were nearby if we needed them. Our only complaint was the underfloor heating, we spent all our time indoors in our nightwear!! We will certainly stay there again but will contact the owner beforehand & ask for the temperature to be reduced before our arrival! A really lovely place to stay for adult groups or families.

Chisel Barn Foxditch

Wonderful place to stay, very luxurious, lucky with the weather. Love the rain shower! Agree that some blinds or curtains would be nice for the dining area, especially in the winter. Was lovely to meet all the passing dogs, horses and sheep on the walks. Beautiful countryside, would definitely come again. Thank you for providing an extra child's bed and emergency dinner cooking.

Chisel Barn Foxditch

A wonderful week in a well-equipped, spacious and comfortable barn with beautiful views to the countryside beyond. Dorset is a lovely place to explore and we did our best to see as much as possible. A super base, with so many lovely towns and attractions close by and further afield. A fabulous holiday had by all.

Chisel Barn Foxditch

Wow! What a fabulous place to stay. A good central location with amazing views over the countryside. The barn conversion itself is superb and very well equipped. We enjoyed our walk with the dog on the various bridal ways around the farm and down to the river Stour at the bottom of the valley (the dog enjoyed them too). If you're on a walking holiday or just want to enjoy some great scenery we would highly recommend a walk along the coastal path, which takes in views of the Jurassic Coast. We started from a beautiful pub ( The Smugglers Inn) in Ossmington Mills and walked along the beach and cliffs. The Durdle Door is definitely worth a visit if you've not been before. All in all a very memorable holiday. We would definitely come again and will recommend.

Chisel Barn Foxditch

This barn conversion was a lovely week away in Dorset. We took our 7 year old west highland white terrier called Lucky and we thought that there would be no dog friendly places but we got that wrong! There were so many places to go including a hacking/pony trekking centre in the New Forest. I loved it! I went with Mum, Dad and Lucky my dog! I would totally recommend this place to anybody as I don't want to go!

Chisel Barn Foxditch

We have just returned from a short family break at Chisel Barn, Foxditch. Set in the heart of the Dorset countryside, Chisel Barn benefited from the most beautiful views across fields and down to the river, with fantastic walks right on the doorstep! The barn was warm and cosy, with under floor heating throughout. It was light and airy and tastefully decorated with neutral tones. It was also fitted out to a high standard, there was a wonderful large open plan living space, with a wood burner and plenty of logs. Chisel Barn was the perfect place for our February half term break. Victoria & John Anderson. (Winchester)

Chisel Barn Foxditch

Our stay at Chisel Barn Foxditch was just perfect in every way. The accommodation was warm, comfortable and had everything to make our holiday exceptional. The owner Lucinda made us very welcome and there was also a welcome pack of coffee, bread, milk, butter, tea and eggs waiting for us. The location was very central for all that Dorset has to offer and the views from the patio spectacular. Local pubs serving good fresh food were within walking distance. All in all a wonderful holiday, I would highly recommend Chisel Barn Foxditch.

Peaceful and tranquil location

Foxditch was an ideal location to relax and get away from city life. Very peaceful location and surrounding countryside was lovely. Did lots of day trips - Shaftesbury, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Street and Thomas Hardy's cottage. The dog loved being outside all the time. Great location and a very enjoyable stay.

Chisel Barn

Review for Jetlag & Mayhem: Blue Chip Holidays - Dorset Who Went Charlotte with daughter Molly, 5 months and Justine with son Albie, 10 months. Where did you go? Fox Ditch, Chisel Barn, Hanford, Dorset, DT11 8HH part of the Blue Chip Baby Collection www.bluechipholidays.co.uk There are two barns that can be rented at Chisel Barn – Fox Ditch (2 bedrooms) and White Ground (3 bedrooms). The barn is next door to a working farm and is set in 65 acres. The owners also provide horse stables should you wish to bring your horse! Dogs are also welcome at the accommodation. Hanford is in the north of Dorset about 5 miles from Blandford Forum. When did you go? October, outside of school half term holidays. How was the weather? 1 day glorious sunshine, 1 day pouring with rain How did you travel there? By car, approx. 2hr 20 mins from South Oxfordshire. What did you think of the accommodation? Very spacious contemporary luxury barn conversion, converted in 2013. Two large double ensuite bedrooms, both with plenty of space for a cot. Power showers, heated towel rails, underfloor heating. Well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and large fridge freezer. Separate utility/ boot room with washing machine and tumbledryer. Third bathroom, which we actually used as a bedroom for one of the kids. A lovely light and airy open plan kitchen/ diner/ lounge leading onto a patio with table and chairs and a small private enclosed garden with cherry trees. There is also a BBQ provided. The woodburner in the lounge was helpfully on a raised platform out of children’s reach. There was a TV and DVD player in lounge and TVs in both bedrooms. Overall the barn was very well maintained with plenty of space for children to play. There is parking right outside the barn for two cars. A lovely welcome hamper with local treats (biscuits, chutney, jam, fudge) was kindly provided by Blue Chip Holidays and the very welcoming owner Lucinda, kindly left fresh bread, eggs, milk, tea & coffee ready for our arrival. What baby/ children amenities had been provided? As one of the Baby Blue Chip Collection properties it came with all baby equipment we could need. There were 3 large storage boxes containing a steriliser, a baby monitor, feeding equipment, blender, toys, children’s DVDs, books, bath toys, night lights. The barn had 2 cots (1 a standard cot, 1 a travel cot) and 2 high chairs all in very good condition. There were also changing mats, potties and toilet steps. The washing machine and tumble dryer would’ve of course been useful for a longer stay. A bonus was we didn’t’ have to clear away lots of ornaments and fragile objects within children’s reach! There was also plenty of floor space to play. Did you do any trips and excursions? You can walk from the barn to the local village of Child Okeford, along a pram friendly bridleway – about a 20 minute walk. In the village there is a children’s playground, 2 pubs and a village shop with post office. There is also an organic farm shop called Gold Hill which was recommended to us but is only open Thurs to Sun so we didn’t get a chance to visit. We went to Shaftesbury, (about 25 minute drive north). An attractive small town with terrific views over the surrounding countryside. We ate lunch in Turnbulls which was very baby friendly with high chairs and welcoming staff http://www.turnbullsdeli.com/ . Shaftesbury has a selection of gift shops, antique shops, charity shops (good for toys!) and two museums (not so child friendly!). We went to Poole on the rainy day (about 45min drive south). We then walked through the Old Town, via Dolphine Shopping Centre to the Quay side. If the weather was better we might have considered one of the many boat trips, to Swanage or around Brownsea Island. Instead we enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at the Quay Café (www.quaycafepool.co.uk) where we had excellent service from a couple of young waiters who couldn’t do enough to entertain the babies and be helpful. The quay side has a number of restaurants and cafes. Poole has plenty of activities for older children in all types of weathers including the Lifeboat Museum, Poole Pottery (where children can paint their own pots) and Poole Park which has a large childrens’ playground, small ice rink and mini train. And of course in the summer there are plenty of beaches and the 2nd largest natural harbour in the world! For a longer stay and weekly provisions, there is a Tesco, Morrisons and Boots in Blandford, about 5 miles away.
