Description

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Chisel Barn is a new conversion designed and fitted to the highest standards. The barn consists of two self contained properties, Whites Ground and Foxditch. Both offer light and airy accommodation with a large double height kitchen and living space.

Chisel Ban Foxditch and Whites Ground are both furnished to the highest of standards and offer luxury accommodation. The properties have retained many original features including exposed beams and limestone flooring. The properties are set in stunning countryside and offer far reaching views from the furnished terrace.

The barns were the base for a large and successful dairy enterprise and remain part of a working farm, with the adjoining buildings still actively being used for stock.

The magnificent and commanding views look over the River Stour valley, the dairy pastures of the Blackmore Vale and the churches of Shillingstone and Child Okeford to the south and west, and the Iron Age forts of Hambledon Hill to the north and Hod Hill to the east. A short walk across the farm takes you through a wood and past a lake to the excellent amenities of Child Okeford, or up the steep slopes to the top of Hambledon Hill where, on a clear day, there are views for many miles. Hambledon Hill is a classic example of an Iron Age hill fort and is now a National Nature Reserve famous for its wild flowers.

This is just one of many and varied walks which also include the Trailway along the old Somerset and Dorset Railway (and the newly restored Shillingstone station) to Sturminster Newton and Blandford Forum.

For Guests who wish to bring their horses, Chisel Barn offers the ideal setting and facilities as detailed below:

  • Basic barn stabling and grazing is available at an additional charge of £10 a horse
  • Bedding available by arrangement
  • Guests would need to supply their own feed, water buckets and equipment
  • Use of a Cross Country Course (beginner to 3’3”) is available at Chisel Barn and forms part of the working farm. Usage is dependent on availability and farm usage, please discuss requirements at the time of booking.

If you are interested in bringing your horse to Chisel Barn please call the bookings team on 0844 561 2001 to discuss your requirements.

A long overdue girls weekend away.

My girlfriends and I had the most amazing time at Chisel Barns. We hired both of the barns as there were 8 of us, both were as beautiful as each other. What attracted me to booking Chisel barns was the ability to have all single beds and the amount of bathroom facilities. All the rooms were decorated slightly differently and to a very high standard. The towels were soft and luxurious and the toiletries smelt heavenly! The barns were spacious and airy with stunning views over the Dorset countryside. The weather was damp but with the log burner glowing nicely we all felt very snug. The owners popped by to see how we were and to establish how we were using the barns as we were one party. We tended to mainly use only the larger barn, Whites Ground, for eating and socialising, the owners were very generous in not minding in the slightest that we moved one of the sofas from Foxditch to Whites Ground....there wasn't quite enough seating for the 8 of us but then WG is only intended to host 6. We walked to Child Okeford on a couple of occasions, it is only a short walk and the road could be dangerous if you are not careful. We made our return trips via the fields, which was fine by daylight but not recommended by night. The 2 pubs we visited were extremely hospitable, we only drank in them, so I can not comment on the food available. On our last day, and vowing to make our get togethers an annual event, all of us said we don't think we could find a better location, so we intend to return next year! Thank you very much Lucinda and John.

The perfect base to explore Dorset

I cannot rate this property highly enough. There were ten of us in our party so we rented both properties that comprise Chisel Barn. The property itself is second to none, finished to a very high standard, extremely comfortable and spacious. Everyone in our party commented on how nice the property was and on the setting. The views are fantastic! We took our two dogs as well and there are lots of good walks in and around the farm. So many places are extremely accessible from here; Bournemouth, Poole, Sandbanks, Studland, Lulworth, Weymouth and Durdle Door all within an hour. Many other fascinating places; even closer of course. Absolutely loved it!

Chisel Barn

Lovely location and excellent facilities....outstanding accommodation....we have an elderly mother and with the wide doorways and excellent bathroom facilities she was able to cope well.
