Beach Holidays on the Isle of PurbeckIsle of Purbeck holiday cottages are popular with beach-goers all year round. Whether your idea of the perfect day by the sea is relaxing on the sand with stunning views, or wandering the deserted sand in Autumn looking for fossils, there’s a stretch of the Jurassic coast with your name on it. |

Swanage BeachThose on family beach holidays on Purbeck tend to head straight for Swanage Beach, as its gently shelving sands earn it Blue Flag status year after year. The warm weather also enjoyed by Swanage only adds to the beach’s appeal, and the Victorian architecture give the resort a quaint seaside feel. The beach is conveniently close to a range of cafes and shops, and the beach has a long association with SCUBA diving. You’ll find plenty of diving outlets nearby, and a range of watersports on offer too. The clear waters of Swanage make its beach just the spot for sailing, wind surfing and waterskiing.

Kimmeridge BayKimmeridge Bay isn’t an ideal choice for traditional Purbeck beach holidays, but it’s great for a spot of fossil hunting! Don some sturdy shoes as the rocks can be slippery and enjoy searching for some of the many reptile fossils to be found along this rugged little bay, but it’s not recommended for children. The shingle along the shore is the best area for fossils, but please check the tide times carefully as there is a rick of being cut off along the bay. .

Shell BayBack to the list of sandy Purbeck beaches, and it’s Shell Bay next! This sandy beach is safe for children of all ages, and it slopes very gently. The beach avoids being too commercial, yet is served with enough facilities to make it family-friendly. This beach can be reached via the Sandbanks Ferry, so its a popular one with visitors to the area. This stretch of the Jurassic Coastline is always popular with sailors, so the beach is a great spot to lie back and watch the boats bobbing out at sea.

Studland BeachNow we have to be a bit careful here, as although a beautiful place to enjoy during a Purbeck beach holiday, Studland Beach is also home to a nudist section. It’s well sign posted before the actual area, so keep your eyes peeled (in the right sirection...!). Anyway, Studland Beach is a four mile stretch of sand, with a seasonal dog ban, sand dunes and watersports – so it’s great for those on beach holidays on Purbeck. The South West Coast Path starts here too, so why not pick it up for a stroll?
